After an excellent day on the road, we have arrived at Galvaston Bay RV Park just south of Houston. We have a perfect site for Hurricane (our RV's name) on the banks of the Gulf of Mexico looking south over the vast expanse of ocean. Facilities here are very good, however we will be hitting the road tomorrow heading further west to the Mexican border via San Antonia towards El Paso. The really great thing about this trip is that we never really know where we are going to end up when night time comes. We did have a plan at breakfast time this morning to hit Houston by the end of the day that involved a 343 mile trip, a bit like Edinburgh to London, without the M6. Surprise, surprise we did just that. The road conditions can be a little scary at times. The quality of maintenance various from state to state and it does somewhat focus your attention when doing 65 mph on a big open road that very quickly becomes a single track road 9 feet wide particularly when the RV is 8 feet 6 ‘ wide. Our plan for tomorrow is to get in as many miles under our belt as possible. El Paso is 758 miles from where we are now and whilst it sounds unlikely that we will do that mileage in one day we may just do it. Watch for postings later. We are seriously impressed with the RV parks here and the fact that there is free wireless internet everywhere. There is also high quality digital tv on board which allows us to tune into the 24 hour rolling news and keep up with what’s going on. Well, I must go now, I here James opening a small bottle of Chardonnay in the kitchen and Ken is sorting out the music in the living room. Here are a couple of pictures, showing the RV parked up at Daytona Beach and Kenny & James around the Fire Pit in Tallahasee. We arrived this evening (Tuesday 6th) in New Orleans and we are at the KOA camp in the city. It is very different to the Parks we have experienced so far. There is very little room between the RV's and it's certainly not as beautiful in terms of scenery. On arrival the guy from reception helped us to park up and it was at thatg point I saw my first Brown Widow spider, then my second. Our helper confirmed that both brown and black widows were very common here and also the Fire Ants were especially scary. Oh well, welcome to New Orleans. Our plan is to spend tomorrow in the city and have one more night here before heading on to Texas. All going well so far......

Just in case nobody has noticed. We are only now getting the hang of this blogging m'larky.. We stopped off on Saturday morning at the local Wall Mart in Kissimee Orlando and filled 3 trolleys of goodies. We will try to get the chronology sorted out from now. At present we are in a really good RV park just outside Tallahassee. Our plan for tomorrow is to get on the road about 9 am and drive for a few hours in a westerly direction towards Pensacola. Internet technology permitting we will update you from there.

So here we are literally on Daytona Beach. As promised, we started with a swim in the Atlantic and are now on our way to the Pacific ocean. Oh Happy Days...

The Great American Road Trip has now officially started. It's 5.00 am with us here in Florida which means 10 am back home in Scotland.  There was a line in that wonderful film the Hangover which went something like what happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas.  Well applying that principle, we have nothing much to say, other than we forgive BA for all the times they have treated us badly in the past.  The hospitality was fantastic on the flight over and everyone so far has been "amazed at our awesome Scottish accents"The photo above say's it all really.  We pick up the RV in a couple of hours and are looking forward to our first hunting trip to Wall Mart.  More later.

At 6.20am on 2/2/12 we take off from Edinburgh to Gatwick. After a liquid breakfast, we board our flight to Orlando, Florida. As i write this, Jock is trying to blag us an upgrade to business class but chances are we'll be back in steerage!
At 7.30am 3/3/12, the RV team pick us up from the hotel and take us to the depot to pick up our transport/accommodation for the next 3 weeks. Next stop Daytona.
