Above the Apollo Test Capsule at Meteor Creator. This is where early Apollo astronauts undertook training before going into space.
The 3 Amigos at Meteor Creator. It's really just a very big hole in the ground. Being slightly sceptical, I wonder if the US Tourist board planned this many years ago and started excavating this hole in the desert. It did after all cost us $16 to get in.... (to look at a hole)
Above. Spot Ken and James with lots of other people, looking at the hole.
Above. How exciting can one masive hole be?
Thursday 15th March: After taking delivery of our hire car at the RV park in Sedona, we headed north to see some of the more commercially known and popular tourist sites of the area. About 130 miles brought us to Meteor Creator, where despite my sceptical ramblings above, was quite impressive. I won't bore you with the history of it, but if you are interested there is loads to read about it on-line. Around 50,000 years ago a meteor around half the size of an American football pitch came down on this sleepy backwater in Arizona. Thankfully there was no football match going on that day and according to eye witness accounts, no one was seriously injured. Neither CNN or the BBC world service had reporters on the ground at the time, but it is fair to say it made a hefty noise on impact. Enough of hole watching, we spent an hour or so there and headed west towards the Grand Canyon.
